So, i havent played world of warcraft for months, blame that on moving house a long holiday and work just being mental. Anyway, so i’ve just decided to install it all again and go mental. This blog has given me a thirst to play again and i’ve become all nostalgic thinking about all the fun i’d had with Ravengrass and wanted to finally get to level 70.
Anyway so after faffing around trying to get not only a download location, which was far more painful that i’d ever imagined add to that the fact that i’d forgotten my login details. I’d also sold my old PC so didnt have it saved
Trusty password retriever to the rescue on that issue. So i sit back and think great now download and install. on my 24 Meg download (thanks to be unlimitied) i figured it wouldnt take long. So i get myself a beer and flick on the TV.
6 Hours later, bare in mind its a 2Gig download though, but still 6 hours! So i install what needs to be installed and then hit start.
All of a sudden i have to install about 1Gigs worth of updates! WTF! Why would i need to download additional patches when i’d just downloaded the whole thing! I work in the internet game and have done alot of JAVA in my time so i know when you download a new version of something there is also going to be updates and patches. But most companies repack the initial program with all the updates meaning its only 1 download and not 100. Blizzard doesnt seem to do this? Why on earth wouldnt you repack the downloader after each patch? It just baffles me. Maybe this adds to their overall data downloads? Assuming of course that blizzard would release that sort of data? Of course for a MMORPH this information is a good indicator of how much people like your game, wouldnt you think?
ANyway so everything is downloaded i am now at the position to install BC (please dont tell me i didnt need to install the original game first!) so 5 CDs from the boxset later i think right bonus i can now play. Well how wrong i was. I’ve now got to download an extra 1GB of data. Now my initial argument doesnt work in this, after all i havent downloaded this from the official website. But still 1GB extra to download, and thats just 1 patch. I havent completely finished this download (80Kb/s) isnt really what Ricky Bobby would get to excited about!
Hopefully i will get this in an hour or so meaning i will have to wait till tomorrow to finally get reunited with Ravengrass. I’ve got a hankering for some PvP…
I’ll let you know when i am online! Can’t wait, months of rested XP should be fun fun fun.

This is so true, i had to re-install this game a while ago as i upgraded my PC and had to buy a new HDD.
It took me absolutely ages to download all the stuff i needed to download. I read on teh wow-europe forums that you can apparently get all the downloads in one go, i guess that is what you’re talking about in the post above.
Either way, made me chuckle, good chat. Liking this world of warcraft blog at the moment, looks like you might have some interesting comments coming up.
Can’t wait to read the Ravengrass diaries, that sounds like a good idea. Bring on world of warcraft, i love that game.
