So i wrote an article yesterday about how to train pets and some little bits of advice. What i failed to mention was when you attempt to train a pet you will need to first abandon your pet, or place it in a stable.
The following boxes need to be ticked:
- You are at least level 10 and have the skill
- You must be the same level or higher than the beast you’re trying to tame
- You must either not have a pet, or it’s stabled
- The beast needs to be tameable
When all of the above is true then you can attempt to tame your pet. Be warned though as when you attempt to tame the beast your armor is reduced by 100% while you focus on taming the beast for 20 sec. If you lose the beast’s attention for any reason, the taming process will fail. Once tamed, the beast will be very unhappy and disloyal.

In the World of Warcraft, taming your first real hunter pet comes at the end of a level 10 quest that you get from your hometown hunter trainer. The quest consists of 2 parts. The first half consists of using a special taming rod to tame three types of creatures. After the first half, you learn the skill Tame Pet and you may be tempted to run out and tame a pet immediately. But the second half (a very simple sub quest) teaches you how to feed and train your new pet. Many new hunters run right out to tame a pet before they finish the second half of the quest. I am ashamed to admit this happened to me when i first started as my hunter. I was so over the moon that i got this new pet (bear) that i just ran around killing everything but didnt even feed the damn thing. So it just ran away.
