2.4.3 Highlights

We realise most of you won’t have the time to go through the full patch notes, so here are the main highlights (feel free to add anything you think we’ve missed out):

  • Mount level requirement lowered to 30: This has to be the biggest change in the patch, and one that most people will welcome. Thinking about it, having to go all the way to level 40 without a mount seems ridiculous, it probably prolongs the levelling process by a few hours at the very least. The price of training has also been reduced to 35G to reflect the amount of gold a level 30 character might realistically have.
  • Haris Pilton now sells 22 slot bags: The infamous NPC in Shattrath City is selling very large bags for players to purchase. They’re not cheap though, at 1200G each…
  • Stormwind Docks are being built!: Travel to the Stormwind Canals in between the Park and Catherdral Square and you’ll see the start of the Stormwind Docks being built!
  • Cheat Death Nerf: The rather over-powered ability ‘Cheat Death’ has finally been battered by the Nerf Stick. Check out the Patch Notes to see the new spell stats.
  • The time you have to accept entry into a battleground has been reduced from 2 mins to 1 min 20secs: This means when the battle starts, everyone should be present and correct.
  • Time management features have been implemented!: At last, no more missed TV shows, no more burnt dinners (in theory); Blizzard have added an in-game clock which will be on show under the minimap at all times, and it will display the local time, not the server time as before. There is also a Stop Watch and an Alarm Clock! Input a time and reminder, and you will see a popup when that time arrives.

How Long Will WoW Be Around?

This is a question I was asked to put to the developers at the WWI, but I didn’t get time. Fortunately, someone on the official forums asked the very question I was unable to, and got a blue response - here is it:

This is an unknown. We have a lot of story to tell and more development plans. Where we end all depends on too many factors to predict an end. Perhaps there never will be one and we will all grow old and gray together while our grandchildren bounce on our knees and laugh at our inability to wetwire into our computers like they can. I guess only time will tell. ;)

Monday Blues

There’s been plenty of Blue posting activity since the USA woke up a few hours ago; here are a few of the interesting things they’ve come out with since then:

What will be the next gold sink in Wrath of the Lich King?

Blizzard Quote: (Source)
Animal rescue centers will be set up by D.E.H.T.A (Druids for the Ethical and Humane Treatment of Animals) and the movement to rid the world of Nessingwary will need funding! Save the penguins! Save the world! /kidding

Or more seriously, I’m sure there will always be something worth spending your hard earned gold on. The new profession Inscription will be in, many people will most likely work on that, the new Death Knights will be in and people will be working to gear those up, get things enchanted, inscripted, need potions and whatever else.

Could there be new mounts? That’s possible.
Need a haircut? You could spend a little getting one.

Finally planning that romantic vacation to Grizzlyhills? I hear that costs too. /joking here too

There will be things to spend on and I’m sure another shift in the economy to some degree. As I’ve found though, each realm tends to have their differences in what is valuable and prices tend to vary between them. We’re working on making sure we’re keeping the health of the economy in mind as we’re developing.

How will Horde and Alliance be sharing another city in Lich King, the Horde hate Dalaran anyway, they tried to destroy it!

Blizzard Quote: (Source)
Times change as do alliances or reasons to tolerate (at the least) an enemy. Dalaran and the magic users thereof (and of all the world) are finding themselves hard pressed to defend themselves against the Blue Dragonflight and Malygos who has woken up (so to speak) and found that, as the guardian of magic, too many have magic at their fingertips and he’s not too comfortable with that. He’s looking to wipe the slate clean (so I hear) and get things back into control.

Aside from that, we haven’t discussed too much on how we’re going to run this city as of yet. During the Worldwide Invitational we did talk about the new Arena that will be located in the Sewers of Dalaran. That should prove as a bit tantalizing for those interested.

Also keep in mind, there are the two starting regions for Horde and Alliance and of course the other places in between that should help serve as stopping points, refill stations and what have you. We’ll be revealing more about this all though as we move forward. We are getting there, however, and I’m hoping that people will be pleasantly surprised, and if they aren’t pleasantly surprised, I’d like them to at least pretend for my benefit. :)

How much Runic Power will Death Knights have?

Blizzard Quote: (Source)
It’s not a known and has not been stated as of yet. The new system should prove interesting for players looking forward to playing a Death Knight.

Pig from Wanderinggoblin.com pointed this one my way, and I felt compelled to share.

If any of you Mages or Engineers out there were to miss your sheep companions while not in Azeroth, here’s one you can have in real life! If cuts your grass, probably keeps unwanted cats off the lawn, and gives you none of the hassle of the genuine item!

Affectionately named ‘Mower’, he has obstacle avoidance technology and built-in GPS.

The only thing it requires is a little electric, cute huh? Just what a Mage needs to remind him of Azeroth when he can’t be logged on ;)
